Lash out. As so they say. Since 2019 is here, I figured I write about the one makeup product that literally no one can go without. A makeup look will forever be incomplete without mascara. I stand firm-grounded on that.
I gathered up a list of mascaras that are a must-must for this year. Most of them are drugstore, and so doesn’t require too much of an investment.
L’Oréal Voluminous Original Mascara
Price: $6.99 CAD
This mascara literally adheres to its name. The mascara might be old in the market, but definitely made it to my top five mascaras. An oldie, but a goldie, you know what I am saying?
Pros:
- Does not clump or flake
- Can give both natural yet dramatic look
- Adds volume and length to lashes
- Safe on sensitive skin (me)
- Safe for contact wearers (also me)
- Waterproof
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
Price: $6.96 CAD
This mascara has to be the best drugstore mascara out there. Literally the wand has 10 layers of bristles, to thicken and volumize the lashes. The formula is on a little wet side, which makes it easy to apply.
Pros:
- Full fan effect
- Curls lashes
- Does not get clumpy
- Thickens and lengthens
- Dramatic look with one coat
- Smudge-proof
- All day wear
CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara
Price: $8.47 CAD
If you don’t know already, I am a die-hard fan of CoverGirl products, especially when it comes to their mascaras. Generally speaking, all of their LashBlast mascara line are really, really good. This one in particular is my favourite.
Pros:
- Instant Volume
- Smudge-proof
- Affordable
- Separates lashes
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara
Price: $34 CAD
Okay, yes I am very well aware that this has to be the most expensive mascara out there. I know. But hear me out, it works like nothing ever. Definitely pricey, but if you are looking into investing in a mascara, this is the one.
Pros:
- Creates “outrages” volume
- Gives false-lash effect
- Does not clump
- Separates and curls each lash
- Thickens lashes
- Daily-wear
New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara
Price: $3.97 CAD
Absolutely the cheapest one of my list. But let me tell you this, you get what you pay for. This is actually the very first mascara I used when I was a beginner in doing makeup. If you want a mascara but don’t want to spend too much on it, then this is the one for you.
Pros:
- Thick and long lashes
- Daily wear
- Affordable
- Super lightweight
- Natural look
Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara
Price: $30 CAD
Again, more on the pricey side, but definitely worth every penny. This mascara is amazonian clay infused for longer and thicker lashes. Ooh, and its also vegan. Definitely try to pick this up if you can.

- Soft, and weightless volume
- Helps lashes become strong and healthier
- Instant volume and length
- Lightweight
- Stays on all day
- Does not clump
